## Papers

1. **[Bimorphisms and synchronous grammars](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/papers/shieber-2014-bimorphisms-synchronous-grammars/)** *(2014)* Language relations, such as translation or the relation between a sentence and its meaning, are often more natural to specify than single languages.
2. **[Arabic Diacritization Using Weighted Finite-State Transducers](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/papers/aclbulk-2005-nelken-arabic-diacritization-weighted-finite-state/)** *(2005)* The paper restores short vowels and other diacritics (shadda, sukun, tanween, hamza forms) to undiacritized Modern Standard Arabic with a cascade of weighted finite-state transducers, modelling the loss of diacritics generatively and decoding with Viterbi.
3. **[Synchronous Grammars as Tree Transducers](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/papers/shieber-2004-synchronous-grammars-as-tree-transducers/)** *(2004)* Tree transducers came from formal language theory as generalisations of finite-state transducers to trees.
