## About

### Profile

[Slovenia](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/orgs/country/si/) appears in this library through a small group of research institutions whose scientists have written papers held on this site. The country page gathers universities, laboratories, companies and other bodies based in Slovenia, provided that their researchers wrote at least two of the papers collected here. As the library currently stands, three institutions meet that threshold: one research institute and two universities. All three are located in Ljubljana, so the Slovenian presence on this site is, in effect, a Ljubljana presence.

The group is small, but it covers different kinds of institution. The [Jožef Stefan Institute](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/labs/jozef-stefan-institute/) is listed as a research institute. The [Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/jozef-stefan-international-postgraduate-school/) and the [University of Ljubljana](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/university-of-ljubljana/) are both listed as universities. A reader therefore sees work from a dedicated research body, from an institution focused on postgraduate study, and from a general university. The country page sits inside the library's wider directory of [institutions of all kinds](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/orgs/), where Slovenia can be compared with other countries and individual organisations can be browsed by type.

### How the institutions are presented

The country page lists its institutions according to the cited work their scientists did there. Each entry gives the institution's name, its type, its city and country, and two measures drawn from the library's holdings: how many works in our library are attributed to it, and how often those works have been cited. Both measures change as the library grows, so they are best read as a snapshot of the collection rather than as fixed properties of the institutions.

The page shows the Jožef Stefan Institute first, the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School second, and the University of Ljubljana third. This order is the one the page uses, and the descriptions below follow it. It is not a judgement about the overall standing of these bodies in Slovenian or European science. It reflects only the papers and authors held on this site and the method the library uses to weigh them.

### Research strengths

The Slovenian page does not break down its institutions' research by field, topic or unit, and it does not attach summaries of individual papers. On the evidence this site provides, it is therefore not possible to say which disciplines Slovenian institutions are strongest in. The names and types of the institutions show the general shape of the country's presence, but they do not reveal the content of the work. Anyone who wants to know what the papers are about should open each institution's own page, where the library lists the works attributed to it.

What the country page does show is the balance between the institutions. Among the works here, the Jožef Stefan Institute contributes the largest number of papers. The Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School contributes somewhat fewer. The University of Ljubljana contributes the fewest of the three, yet those papers have collected far more citations than the papers of either of the other two institutions. In terms of cited work in our library, then, the University of Ljubljana carries much of the weight even though its share of papers is the smallest.

This pattern suggests that one or a few of the University of Ljubljana's papers here are very widely cited, while the work of the two Jožef Stefan bodies is spread more evenly across a larger set of papers. The page does not show which papers are behind these totals, so any closer statement about individual works would go beyond what the site offers at the country level.

### Leading institutions

The Jožef Stefan Institute heads the list. As a research institute in Ljubljana, it is the only body of its type among the Slovenian institutions on this site. It has the most papers attributed to it of the three, and those papers have drawn a substantial body of citations. Its own page on this site is the place to see the works and authors connected with it.

The Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School comes second. It is listed as a university and is also based in Ljubljana. Its papers in our library are fewer than the Institute's, and their combined citations are of a broadly similar order to those of the Institute. Although the names of the school and the institute are alike, the country page does not describe any formal relationship between them. Each therefore appears as a separate entry, with its own set of attributed works.

The University of Ljubljana is third in the page's order. It is the general university among the three, and it is again based in Ljubljana. Its papers in our library are the fewest, but they are by a wide margin the most cited of any Slovenian institution here. For readers interested in highly cited work with a Slovenian affiliation on this site, the University of Ljubljana's page is the obvious starting point.

### Leading scientists

The country page does not name individual researchers. People are listed on the pages of the separate institutions rather than at the national level. Readers looking for the scientists behind the Slovenian papers in our library should go to the pages of the Jožef Stefan Institute, the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School and the University of Ljubljana, where the library shows the authors associated with each body and the works they wrote there.

### Landmark works

The country page does not single out particular papers. It reports the total cited work attributed to each institution, but not the titles behind it. All that can be said at this level is that the most cited Slovenian work in our library is concentrated at the University of Ljubljana, whose small group of papers collects more citations than the papers of the two Jožef Stefan institutions together. Identifying the specific landmark works requires the institution pages, which list the papers with their citations.

### Collaborations

The country page does not record co-authorship links between the Slovenian institutions or with partners abroad. One feature can still be noted. All three institutions share a city, Ljubljana, and two of them share the name of Jožef Stefan. Their geographical closeness makes it plausible that researchers move between them or write papers together, but the page does not document such links. Any statement about who works with whom must rest on the individual institution and author pages, not on the national summary.

It is also worth noting that a single paper can appear under more than one institution if its authors hold more than one affiliation. The totals on the country page are therefore best read institution by institution. Adding them together would not necessarily give the number of distinct Slovenian papers in our library.

### Over time

The country page does not give dates for the works it summarises, so it cannot show how Slovenian research on this site has developed over the years. There is no way to tell from the national listing whether the papers here are recent, older, or spread across a long period, or whether the balance between the three institutions has shifted. The institution pages, which list individual works, give a better basis for following any change over time.

### Scope and reading notes

Several points help in reading Slovenia's entry correctly. First, the listing covers only the papers held in this library. A Slovenian institution appears only when its researchers have written at least two of those papers. Bodies that are active in research but not represented in the collection, or represented by a single paper, do not appear. The absence of other universities, institutes or companies from the list therefore says nothing about their research activity. It reflects only what the library holds.

Second, the figures attached to each institution grow as the library adds papers and as existing papers gather citations. The order of the three institutions, and the gaps between them, may change. The present picture, with the Jožef Stefan Institute ahead in number of papers and the University of Ljubljana ahead in citations, describes the collection as it stands now.

Third, the measures used here concern cited work done by scientists at each institution, as the library attributes it. They are not rankings of quality, size, funding or teaching. A research institute, a postgraduate school and a general university differ in purpose and structure, and a comparison based on a small number of papers can only show part of what any of them does.

With those limits in mind, Slovenia's entry gives a clear, if compact, outline: three Ljubljana institutions, one research institute and two universities, together accounting for the Slovenian contributions to this library. The Jožef Stefan Institute and the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School provide the larger number of papers, while the University of Ljubljana provides the most heavily cited ones. The institution pages linked above hold the detail behind this outline: the works, the authors and the citations that make up Slovenia's place in the collection.
