## About

### Profile

This page brings together the Austrian institutions whose researchers appear among the authors of papers in this library. It works as a national index: it does not describe one organisation but gathers the universities and companies based in Austria that have contributed to the scientific works collected on this site. An institution is included only when its scientists wrote more than one of the papers here, so a single stray contribution is not enough to earn a place. The page belongs to a wider directory of [institutions of all kinds](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/orgs/), and the Austrian entry is reached at the address for [Austria](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/orgs/country/at/).

The list is short, and it should be read with that in mind. It covers only the works and the people present on this site, not Austrian science as a whole. Many Austrian institutions that publish actively elsewhere may be missing simply because their papers are not part of this collection, or because only one of their papers is. What the page offers is a view of where Austrian contributions to this library come from, which kinds of organisations produce them, and how those organisations compare with one another in the cited work their scientists did there.

The order of the list is set by the cited work that each institution's scientists carried out while working there. That order is not a plain ranking by raw citation totals, and readers who compare the figures shown next to each name will notice that the institution with the largest body of cited work in our library does not stand at the head of the list. The sequence below follows the page exactly.

### Institutions on this site

At the top of the list stands [Johannes Kepler University of Linz](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/johannes-kepler-university-of-linz/), a university in Linz. Among the Austrian entries it has only a small set of works in our library, yet these works have drawn a large amount of attention from other researchers. Its place at the head of the page reflects work by its scientists that has been cited heavily relative to the size of its presence here. For a reader trying to find concentrated, much-cited Austrian research in this library, Linz is a natural first stop.

Second comes [Universität Innsbruck](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/universitat-innsbruck/), a university in Innsbruck. Its works here are somewhat more numerous than those from Linz, though the attention they have received from other authors is more modest. Innsbruck represents the western part of the country on this list and is the only entry from the Tyrol region of Austria.

Third is [TU Wien](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/tu-wien/), a university in Vienna. Its body of work in our library is comparable in size to Innsbruck's and has been cited somewhat more. TU Wien is the first of several Vienna-based entries on the page, and as a technical university it gives the list an engineering and applied-science dimension, at least in the kind of institution it represents.

Fourth is the [University of Vienna](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/university-of-vienna/), also in Vienna. Of all the Austrian institutions here, it has the largest set of works in our library, and those works have been cited far more than the works of any other Austrian entry. In terms of total attention from other researchers, the University of Vienna dominates the Austrian presence in this library by a wide margin. Its position fourth in the order, rather than first, shows that the page's ranking is not driven by citation totals alone; it reflects the page's own measure of the cited work done by the institution's scientists. Readers interested in the most cited Austrian research available on this site will find the University of Vienna's own page the most rewarding place to continue.

Fifth is the [University of Klagenfurt](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/university-of-klagenfurt/), a university in Klagenfurt. Like Linz, it has only a small set of works here, and these have been cited less than those of the other universities on the list. Klagenfurt brings the south of Austria into the picture, as the only entry from that part of the country.

Sixth and last is [Nuance Communications (Austria)](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/companies/nuance-communications/), the Austrian arm of a company, located in Vienna. It is the only entry on the page that is not a university. Its small body of work in our library has attracted more citations than Klagenfurt's, though it appears after Klagenfurt in the order.

### Kinds of institutions

The Austrian presence in this library is overwhelmingly academic. Universities make up almost the entire list, and only a single company appears alongside them. There are no research laboratories, hospitals, government agencies or independent institutes listed for Austria on this site, even though the wider directory covers such kinds of organisations. This does not mean that Austria lacks such bodies; it means only that, among the works collected here, none of them has contributed more than one paper.

The universities themselves vary in character. The list includes a technical university in TU Wien, alongside general universities such as the University of Vienna, Universität Innsbruck, the University of Klagenfurt and Johannes Kepler University of Linz. The page does not give the fields or topics each institution works in, so it cannot be said from this list alone which disciplines the Austrian works in our library belong to. Readers wanting that detail should follow the link to each institution, where its own page describes its works and people.

The presence of Nuance Communications (Austria) is worth noting on its own. It shows that industrial research carried out in Austria also reaches this library, and that a company's Austrian branch can produce cited scientific work alongside universities. Because it is the only company on the list, it stands as the sole example of corporate research among the Austrian entries here.

### Geography

The institutions on this page are spread across several Austrian cities, but Vienna clearly stands out. The capital is home to more of the listed institutions than any other city: TU Wien, the University of Vienna and Nuance Communications (Austria) are all based there. Together they account for the largest share of the Austrian works in our library and, because of the University of Vienna in particular, for most of the citations those works have received.

Outside the capital, each of the other cities on the list is represented by a single university. Linz, in the north of the country, contributes Johannes Kepler University of Linz, which leads the page. Innsbruck, in the west, contributes Universität Innsbruck. Klagenfurt, in the south, contributes the University of Klagenfurt. The result is a pattern in which Vienna serves as the main hub while several regional universities each add a smaller but distinct share.

This geographic spread is a useful reminder that Austrian research in this library is not confined to the capital. The institution at the top of the order sits outside Vienna, and two other regional universities appear high up in the sequence. At the same time, the sheer weight of cited work coming from the University of Vienna means that, measured by total attention, the capital remains at the centre of the Austrian contribution on this site.

### Comparing the institutions

Several contrasts emerge when the entries are set side by side. The first is between size and attention. Some institutions, such as Johannes Kepler University of Linz, have only a few works in our library but a great deal of attention from other researchers. Others, such as Universität Innsbruck and TU Wien, have slightly larger sets of works that have been cited less intensively. The University of Vienna combines the largest set of works with by far the most citations, while the University of Klagenfurt and Nuance Communications (Austria) each have small sets of works with more modest attention.

The second contrast is between the order of the list and its raw figures. Because the page ranks institutions by the cited work their scientists did there, rather than by simple totals, an institution can appear above another that has received more citations overall. This is most visible in the gap between Linz at the top and Vienna fourth, and in Klagenfurt appearing ahead of Nuance Communications (Austria). Readers should therefore treat the order as the page's own way of weighing the work, and look at each institution's page for a fuller account.

The third contrast is between kinds of organisation. Universities supply almost all of the Austrian work here, and the single company on the list shows the more limited role of industrial research among these works.

### What the page shows and what it does not

The Austrian page is an index rather than a full portrait. It names the institutions, gives their kind and city, and orders them by the cited work done there, with figures for works and citations beside each name. It does not, on its own, describe research topics, name individual scientists, single out particular papers, record collaborations between institutions or show how the Austrian works are distributed across the years. Those details belong to the pages of the individual institutions.

For this reason, the most useful way to explore Austrian research on this site is to start from the list and follow the links. The University of Vienna's page leads to the largest and most cited body of Austrian work here. Johannes Kepler University of Linz's page leads to a small but heavily cited set of works. TU Wien and Universität Innsbruck offer mid-sized collections, while the University of Klagenfurt and Nuance Communications (Austria) each offer a narrower view, the latter from industry rather than academia.

As the library grows, the list is likely to change. New papers may bring further Austrian institutions above the inclusion threshold, and the order among the existing entries may shift as their works attract more attention. The page as it stands shows a compact, mainly academic Austrian presence, centred on Vienna but with notable contributions from universities in Linz, Innsbruck and Klagenfurt, and with a single company representing applied research carried out in the country.
