## About

### Profile

This is the country page for [Egypt](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/orgs/country/eg/) in the site's directory of [research organisations](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/orgs/). It gathers the universities, laboratories, companies and other bodies in the country whose researchers wrote at least two of the papers held on this site. Each institution is listed according to the cited work its scientists produced there. The page is a guide to Egyptian institutional research as the library's collection shows it, not a census of research in the country. An institution with only one paper here, or none, does not appear, however large or active it may be elsewhere.

Every institution currently on the list is a university. No research institute, government laboratory, hospital, company or foundation in Egypt has yet reached the threshold for inclusion. Among the works here, then, Egyptian research shows up mainly through the university system. The universities are spread across several cities. Cairo is the most frequent location, followed by Alexandria, with single entries from Giza, Asyut, Tanta, Banhā, Zagazig and Ismailia.

### Institutions in the order listed

[Cairo University](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/cairo-university/), in Giza, comes first. It has the largest body of work of any Egyptian institution on this site, and that work has drawn by far the most citations. On this site it is the main centre of cited research from the country. Its entry is the natural starting point for anyone looking at Egyptian contributions in the collection.

[Alexandria University](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/alexandria-university/) is listed second. In the number of works it holds, it is close behind Cairo University and ahead of every other Egyptian institution. Those works, however, have so far been cited far less than Cairo University's. Its profile is therefore one of steady output rather than heavily cited work.

[Assiut University](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/assiut-university/), in Asyut, comes third. It has only a few works here, yet they have attracted a large share of citations. On this site, Assiut stands out as an institution whose small number of papers has had wide reach.

[German International University](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/german-international-university/), in Cairo, follows. It meets the inclusion threshold with a small number of works, which have so far drawn little citation.

[Tanta University](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/tanta-university/), in Tanta, has a pattern much like Assiut's. A few works are associated with it, and they have been cited heavily. Together with Assiut University, it shows that strongly cited Egyptian work in our library is not limited to the largest institutions.

[Helwan University](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/helwan-university/), in Cairo, has a small number of works here, cited modestly so far.

[Benha University](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/benha-university/), in Banhā, appears with a pair of works. Their citations are moderate compared with the other entries.

[Ain Shams University](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/ain-shams-university/), in Cairo, is also represented by a small number of works, which have drawn limited citation to date.

The [Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/arab-academy-for-science-technology-and-maritime-transport/) is listed as a university in Alexandria. Its few works have gathered a moderate number of citations, more than several institutions placed near it.

[Zagazig University](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/zagazig-university/), in Zagazig, has a pair of works on the site. They have so far drawn very little citation.

[October University of Modern Sciences and Arts](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/october-university-of-modern-sciences-and-arts/), in Cairo, has one of the larger bodies of work among the Egyptian institutions here. It is behind only Cairo University and Alexandria University on that measure. Its citations remain modest, which explains why it sits lower in the order than its output alone might suggest.

[Suez Canal University](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/suez-canal-university/), in Ismailia, is represented by a small number of works with few citations so far.

The [Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/egypt-japan-university-of-science-and-technology/), in Alexandria, closes the list. It has a pair of works that have so far drawn very little citation.

### Patterns across the list

Read together, the entries show three broad patterns. The first is a single dominant institution. Cairo University leads both in output and in citations, and no other Egyptian entry comes close to its citation total.

The second is a group of small but heavily cited institutions. Assiut University and Tanta University each have only a few works here, yet each has attracted citations far beyond what that output would suggest. For readers trying to find influential Egyptian work in the collection, these two universities deserve attention alongside Cairo University.

The third is a group of institutions with more output than citation. Alexandria University and October University of Modern Sciences and Arts both hold several works, but neither has yet drawn citations in proportion to that output. This may reflect when their papers appeared, the fields involved, or simply how readers have used them so far. The page itself does not say which.

The remaining universities each hold a small number of works and gather a modest share of citations. Their presence shows that work from a wide range of Egyptian institutions has reached the collection, even where it is not yet heavily cited.

The order is set by the cited work done at each institution, not by output or citation totals alone. As a result, the sequence does not always match either simple measure. An institution with more papers can sit below one with fewer, and two institutions with similar citation totals can sit apart. Readers who want to compare institutions on a single measure should look at each one's own page.

### Geography

On this site, Egyptian research appears in several centres rather than one. Cairo has the most institutions on the list: German International University, Helwan University, Ain Shams University and October University of Modern Sciences and Arts. Cairo University is listed under Giza. The Cairo institutions differ widely, ranging from universities with several works to those with only the minimum needed for inclusion.

Alexandria is the second centre, with three entries. Alexandria University, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport and the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology are all located there. Between them, these three hold a substantial body of work on the site, though most of it has been cited only lightly so far.

Beyond these two cities, the list reaches Asyut, Tanta, Banhā, Zagazig and Ismailia, each with one university. Two of these, Assiut University and Tanta University, account for a large part of the most cited Egyptian work in the collection. On this site, then, influential research from Egypt is not concentrated only in the largest cities.

### Research strengths

The country page does not break Egyptian research down by field, topic or individual work. The subjects these universities work on can be found on each institution's own page. There, the works, topics and people linked to each university are listed. The country page shows where cited work has come from and roughly how much, rather than what it covers.

For this reason, no field-wide claims about Egyptian science follow from the list. The list supports a narrower statement. Among the papers in our library, work connected to Egyptian institutions comes from many universities in several cities. Its citations are concentrated at Cairo University, with Assiut University and Tanta University also standing out.

### Leading scientists, landmark works and collaborations

The country page names no individual researchers. It does not list particular papers or describe partnerships between Egyptian institutions and those abroad. The scientists who did the cited work at each university, the most cited papers, and any co-authors in other countries appear on the pages of the individual institutions. Readers interested in a particular group or paper should start from the university most relevant to them. Cairo University, Assiut University and Tanta University hold the most cited Egyptian work in the collection, which makes them the obvious places to look for its landmark papers.

### Over time

The country page gives no dates for the works it summarises, so it cannot show how Egyptian research on the site has grown or shifted over the years. The list itself will change as the library grows. Institutions with a single paper today may cross the threshold and appear. Those already listed may move as their work is cited more or less. The order and the relative standing described here reflect the collection as it currently stands on this site.
