## About

### Profile

[Morocco](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/orgs/country/ma/) appears in this library as a country with a small group of research institutions whose scientists have written papers held in the collection. An institution is listed only when its researchers account for more than a single paper in our library. The listed institutions are then ordered by how much the work their scientists produced there has been cited. The order does not reflect size, age, funding or general standing. At present every Moroccan institution that meets this threshold is a university. No government laboratory, company, hospital or independent research centre in the country has yet reached it.

The universities are based in two cities, Marrakesh and Fes. Moroccan research on this site therefore comes from a narrow set of academic settings. Other kinds of organisation certainly carry out research in the country, but none of them yet has enough papers here to earn a place in the list. Readers who want to compare Morocco with other countries, or to browse institutions of every type in one place, can turn to the general [directory of institutions](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/orgs/). That directory gathers universities, laboratories, firms and other bodies across all the countries the library covers.

The Moroccan listing works mainly as a gateway. It names the universities, says where each is, and shows how their contributions compare. The finer detail is kept on each university's own profile: which papers they wrote, who wrote them, and which subjects they deal with. The sections below describe the listed universities, explain how they are ordered, and show where a reader should look for the information that the country view does not hold.

### Institutions on this site

The first listed is [Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/universite-mohammed-vi-polytechnique/), a university in Marrakesh. Among the Moroccan institutions here, it has contributed the largest body of work, and that work has gathered the most citations. Its first place therefore rests on both volume and reception. Compared with the other Moroccan universities on the site, it has more papers in the collection, and those papers together have been taken up most often by later research. For anyone trying to understand the core of Moroccan research in this library, its profile is the natural starting point. That profile lists the individual works, the scientists who wrote them, and the topics they address.

Second is [Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/sidi-mohamed-ben-abdellah-university/), a university in Fes. Its listed output is smaller than that of the Marrakesh polytechnic. Even so, its works have been cited substantially, so each of its papers here has, on average, drawn a good deal of attention. A reader comparing the two highest-placed entries will see a contrast. The polytechnic stands out for the breadth of its contribution. The Fes university stands out for how widely a smaller set of papers has been cited. Its profile is the place to find out which of its works account for that attention and which researchers wrote them.

Third is [Cadi Ayyad University](https://md.research.elamur.ai/free/en/universities/cadi-ayyad-university/), also in Marrakesh. It has as many works on the site as Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University, but those works have been cited far less. For that reason it sits below the Fes university, even though the two contribute equally in size. This pairing shows clearly how the ordering works. Two institutions with the same output can occupy different positions because of the citations their papers have received. Cadi Ayyad University's profile gives the detail of its contribution, including the papers concerned and the people behind them.

### How the list is ordered

The order of the Moroccan universities shows only how the papers in this collection have been received. It says nothing about the overall research capacity of these institutions, the quality of their teaching, or the state of Moroccan science more broadly. The library holds a selection of scientific papers, not a complete census of everything published. An institution's position depends on which of its researchers' works happen to be included and how often those works have been cited by others.

Two measures are worth keeping apart when reading the list. The first is volume, meaning how many of the papers on the site come from a given institution. The second is citation, meaning how far those papers have been taken up by other work. Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique leads on both. The other two universities are level on volume but differ sharply on citation, and that difference alone decides their relative places. Readers interested in research impact may find the Fes university's showing notable for a small contribution. Readers interested in where most Moroccan papers in the collection come from will look first to Marrakesh and to the polytechnic in particular.

Citation counts also take time to build up. A paper that appeared recently has had less opportunity to be cited than an older one, so a university whose works here are newer may sit lower than its later standing would suggest. The country listing does not show the dates of the papers behind each entry. A reader who wants to judge whether an institution's position reflects the age of its works, and not only the attention they have drawn, should check the dates on the institutional profiles.

### Geography

Research institutions in Morocco on this site are concentrated in Marrakesh. Both Marrakesh universities appear in the list, and one of them, the polytechnic, has the largest and most cited output. Fes is the only other city represented, through Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University. No institution in any other Moroccan city currently appears. That pattern may reflect where the authors of the collected papers happen to work, not the full spread of research activity across the country.

Because two of the universities share a city, readers can compare institutions within Marrakesh directly. Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique and Cadi Ayyad University have the same location, yet their profiles here differ both in the size of their contribution and in the attention it has received. The Fes university offers a point of comparison outside Marrakesh. Its higher citation level relative to Cadi Ayyad University suggests that, within this collection, the location of an institution says little about how its work has been received.

### Research topics and people

The country-level listing does not itself set out fields of research, individual scientists or particular papers. That detail is held on each university's own profile. To learn what subjects Moroccan researchers on this site work on, who the most active authors are, and which papers have been cited most, readers should follow the links to the individual universities. Each institutional profile presents its works with their citations, the people associated with it in the order the library gives them, and the topics and units under which its research is grouped.

Because the detail sits at the institutional level, any account of Moroccan research strengths drawn from this library has to be built up university by university. Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique, as the largest contributor, will carry most weight in such a picture, and its topics will shape any general impression of what Moroccan research here concerns. Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University adds a smaller but well-cited share, so the subjects it covers may be more prominent in citation terms than its size suggests. Cadi Ayyad University adds a share of equal size and lower citation. A reader assembling an overview should weigh each contribution accordingly and should not assume that the three universities work in the same fields.

The same applies to people. The country view names no individual scientists, so it offers no basis for saying who the leading Moroccan researchers in the collection are. The authors listed first on each university's profile are the obvious place to begin. Their papers will show which lines of research account for that institution's place in the Moroccan list.

### Collaborations

The country listing gives no information about partnerships between these universities or about links with institutions abroad. It does not say whether researchers at the Marrakesh polytechnic have written papers with colleagues in Fes, or whether Moroccan scientists on this site mostly publish with partners in other countries. Such patterns, where the library can show them, appear on the individual institutional profiles through the co-authors of the works listed there. Any statement about which countries or institutions Moroccan researchers most often work with should be checked against those profiles and not inferred from the country list alone.

### Over time

The country view likewise gives no years and no breakdown of how Moroccan output in the collection has grown. It is therefore not possible to say from this listing when Moroccan papers first entered the library, whether the share from Marrakesh or Fes has changed, or whether citation has risen or fallen over time. The dates of individual works, shown on the university profiles, are the only route to that picture. What can be said is that the listing is not fixed. As the collection grows, new Moroccan institutions may cross the inclusion threshold, and the order of the current universities may shift as their papers gather citations or as new works are added.

### Summary

On this site, Morocco is represented by a small group of universities in Marrakesh and Fes. Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique leads in both the number of works and their citation, and its profile is the main entry point to Moroccan research in the library. Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University follows with a smaller but well-cited set of papers. Cadi Ayyad University matches the Fes university in output but has drawn less citation. Fields of research, individual scientists, collaborations and changes over time are all set out at the institutional level rather than in the country view. The list reflects the papers gathered in this library and will change as more Moroccan work is added.
