## Summary
The volume contains the proceedings of the GEAF 2009 workshop on grammar engineering across frameworks. The workshop took place on 6 August 2009 in Singapore (Suntec), co-located with the ACL-IJCNLP 2009 conference. Its theme is how to develop, debug and evaluate large formal grammars, and how to compare approaches in HPSG, LFG and LTAG. The provided text contains only the title pages, the committee lists, the table of contents and the programme. Therefore, the contribution of individual papers can be judged only from their titles. The topics include grammar construction from a richly annotated treebank, semantic representations based on parallel LFG grammars, and semantic role labeling with the LTAG-Spinal formalism. There are also papers on extracting the argument structure of deverbal nouns, on automatic detection of errors in parsing results, and on evaluating statistical machine translation on artificial data. For Mova, the collection is useful as an overview of ways to build and debug rule-based grammars, which matters for languages with small annotated resources. The demonstration of parallel grammar development for Slavic languages deserves particular attention.

## Key points
- The collection contains 9 papers (pp. 1–71) and 5 demonstrations. The organizers are Tracy Holloway King (Microsoft) and Marianne Santaholma (Geneva University); the programme committee has 16 researchers. ISBN 978-1-932432-49-7.
- Grammars for specific languages: an HPSG for Hausa with autosegmental representations (Crysmann), a German HPSG built from a treebank (Cramer, Zhang), and German semantics based on parallel LFG grammars (Zarrieß).
- Tools for grammar debugging: generalized iterative error mining (de Kok, Ma, van Noord), grammar development driven by the output of a large-scale parser (Dost, King), and the EGAD demonstration system for analyzing overgeneration.
- The demonstrations include parallel grammar engineering for Slavic languages (Avgustinova, Zhang) and a web interface that helps determine the lexical type of new lexemes.
- The workshop concluded with a general discussion moderated by Joakim Nivre.
