## Summary
This item is not an experimental study. It is the 28th yearly installment of a running bibliography that catalogues linguistic publications from 2024 on the Semitic, Cushitic, and Omotic languages of Ethiopia. The problem it addresses is practical: work on these languages is spread across journals, Festschriften, NLP workshop proceedings, and publications in Russian, Chinese, German, and Amharic, which makes it hard to track. The compilers gather these items into one list. It is organised by language family, with a general section, a section for reviews of earlier books, and addenda covering 2023 items that were missed. Entries are alphabetical by author, and every co-author gets a pointer back to the main entry. When a title does not reveal which languages a study covers, a short note adds that information. The list spans historical philology, typology, phonology, and discourse, along with a noticeable amount of computational work such as language models, parallel corpora, QA data, taggers, and speech recognition. Its value lies in giving researchers and NLP builders a single entry point to a scattered, low-resource field.

## Key points
- Published in Aethiopica 28, pp. 181–200. The PDF header gives 2025 as the year, not 2026. Compilers: Krzyżanowska, Bulakh, Ghion-Hamadu, and Miftyakhov (Hamburg, Russian Academy of Sciences, HSE).
- NLP resources listed include:
  - EthioLLM, multilingual LLMs with task evaluation (LREC-COLING 2024)
  - EthioMT, a parallel corpus (RAIL 2024)
  - TIGQA, an expert-annotated Tigrinya QA dataset
  - a hate-speech lexicon and labelling scheme
- Tools for individual languages include a Siltigna POS tagger, a Ge'ez morphological synthesizer, and Amharic ASR combining Transformer and CTC with character and sub-word units.
- The listed work also covers bias and identification: gender bias in Amharic word embeddings, CNN-based Ethio-Semitic language identification with data augmentation, and lexicon-based analysis of language relatedness.
- Non-NLP entries include Ge'ez phonology and morphology, Tigrinya verum focus and self-repair, Yemsa relative clauses, Hamar bridging constructions, and studies on phonological awareness in early-grade teaching.

## Interesting ideas
- Every co-author receives a "see X" stub pointing to one canonical entry, so any name finds the record without duplicating it. — For Mova (world): entities in the knowledge graph could use the same pattern, with many alias nodes resolving to one canonical node so lookup by any name works and facts stay in one place.
- A short note is added whenever a work's title hides which languages it actually covers, so the coverage becomes searchable. — For Mova (learn): each silver or training source could carry explicit coverage metadata, such as genre and the constructions it exercises, so evaluation can choose relevant data and negative controls deliberately.
- Items discovered late are placed in an "Addenda" section for the previous year instead of silently editing the older list. — For Mova (learn): corrections to silver treebanks or repair rules could go into a dated, append-only addenda log, keeping earlier evaluations reproducible while still recording fixes.
- Reviews are listed as separate entries that point to the work they assess, which keeps a judgement apart from the thing judged. — For Mova (world): claims about a source could be stored as distinct nodes linked to that source, so the world model can tell "what X says" from "what Y says about X".
- Titles in non-Latin scripts appear in three forms: original script, romanization, and English gloss. — For Mova (back): generated or translated output could keep the surface form, a normalized form, and a gloss side by side, so the step from graph back to text stays traceable and explainable.
