## Summary
Pushing a published AI method beyond its reported results usually takes months of manual work. Researchers must find the code and data, get the repository running, reproduce the baseline, and only then try improvements. AutoSOTA automates this entire chain, starting from a paper and ending with an improved, runnable repository. The authors split the task into three linked phases. The first gathers resources and fixes the target metric. The second makes experiments run and evaluates them. The third reflects on results and proposes changes. The work is divided among eight cooperating LLM agents. Earlier tools such as AutoResearch only edit one module inside a clean sandbox. AutoSOTA instead handles environment setup, dependency repair and long experiments itself, while a supervising agent blocks illegitimate gains such as evaluation leakage. The system was tested on filtered papers from eight top AI conferences. It produced new SOTA results for 105 papers, improving on the originals by about 10% on average in roughly five hours per paper. This suggests agents can take over routine reproduction and tuning, giving human researchers more time for conceptual work.

## Key points
- **Agents:** the eight roles are AgentResource (links paper to repo and dependencies), AgentObjective (builds a tree-structured evaluation rubric), AgentInit, AgentMonitor (tracks runs and detects deadlocks), AgentFix, AgentIdeator, AgentScheduler and AgentSupervisor.
- **Paper selection:** papers from eight top-tier AI conferences were filtered by methodological relevance, public code, repository readiness and execution cost.
- **Results:** AutoSOTA found 105 new SOTA models, with an average gain of about 10% over the original main methods and about 5 hours of execution per paper.
- **Case studies:** these cover LLM, NLP, computer vision, time series, optimization and biology research. They show changes at the architectural, algorithmic and workflow level, not just hyperparameter tuning.
- **Lineage and next steps:** AgentSupervisor enforces a "red-line" rule set against protocol violations and shortcuts. The system builds on the authors' earlier OmniScientist agent, and its project page is tsinghua-fib-lab.github.io/AutoSOTA.
