## Summary
The paper examines a long-standing problem in teaching Arabic as a foreign language: grammar is hard for non-native learners, and classroom methods often fail to make it usable. The authors use a descriptive-analytical approach rather than an experiment. They draw on Arabic pedagogical literature to explain why grammar matters, where the difficulties come from, and what could ease them. As a practical illustration, they show how the Talkpal app could support instruction, using its exercises on the Arabic broken plural. They conclude that the difficulties come mainly from two sources: the nature of the grammatical content itself and the methods used to teach it. They also argue that digital apps raise learner engagement and help learners grasp a rule within its context and in a logical order. The paper reports no learner sample, test scores or statistics, so its claims are argued rather than measured. Its value is as a framework for integrated grammar teaching that combines linguistic analysis with interactive digital tools.

## Key points
- **Method:** descriptive-analytical review of teaching difficulties, followed by pedagogical proposals. There is no controlled study and no quantitative evaluation.
- **Case study:** Talkpal's broken-plural exercises are used as the example of an app-supported grammar lesson.
- **Two kinds of causes (citing al-Daylamī, 2013):**
  - Primary causes lie in Arabic grammar itself.
  - Secondary causes lie in the curriculum, the teacher and the teaching method.
- **Grammatical competence:** framed as accuracy across vocabulary, rules, pronunciation, spelling and word formation (citing Ismāʿīl, 2011). Grammar is treated as a means to correct expression, not a goal in itself (citing Shaḥātah, 1996).
- **Recommendations:**
  - Open grammar teaching to digital applications.
  - Rely on the digital environment to strengthen learning.
  - Modernise Arabic teaching mechanisms.
- **Disclosure:** ChatGPT 4o was used to help draft the Arabic text.

## Interesting ideas
- Teach a rule inside real text rather than as an isolated table, so the learner sees the rule working in context; this checks understanding rather than memorisation. — For Mova (answer): school-course test items could probe a grammatical point through a short passage the student must interpret, not through a bare rule question.
- Sort the sources of difficulty into those inherent to the language and those introduced by curriculum, teacher or method, so effort goes to the fixable layer. — For Mova (learn): error analysis could tag each parser or reader failure as either a genuinely hard English phenomenon or an artefact of our data and pipeline design, and prioritise the second group.
- Treat grammar as a tool and teach only as much of it as the communicative goal requires, avoiding exhaustive rule coverage for its own sake. — For Mova (tokens): morphology and lemma work could be prioritised by what the downstream frames and world stages actually consume, instead of chasing full paradigm coverage.
- Pilot the approach on one narrow, irregular phenomenon (the broken plural) before generalising, which keeps the demonstration focused and easy to inspect. — For Mova (tokens): irregular English plurals and strong verbs could serve as a small, explainable pilot slice for lemmatizer drills and regression checks.
- Present grammar in a graded, logically ordered sequence from beginner to advanced, so each step builds on the previous one. — For Mova (learn): training and self-play data could follow a curriculum from simple clauses to complex constructions, with evaluation at each level.
