## Summary
Assessing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines is difficult because a bad answer may come from poor retrieval, weak generation, or claims not backed by the retrieved evidence. Popular evaluators tend to merge these into one number and apply lenient grounding checks. RAGVUE is a reference-free evaluation framework that uses LLM judges to score a pipeline along separate axes. These cover retrieval, answer quality, and grounding plus judge stability, and every score comes with a structured explanation. Its faithfulness check is deliberately strict. Each answer is broken into atomic claims, and claims about entities or dates count as supported only when they match the context exactly. A calibration score measures how much different LLM judges agree. Users can pick metrics manually or let an agentic orchestrator choose and aggregate them. The tool is available as a Python API, a CLI, and a local Streamlit app. On a multi-hop benchmark derived from StrategyQA, RAGVUE exposed fine-grained failures that RAGAS overlooked. This makes it useful for debugging RAG systems step by step.

## Key points
- The framework has seven metrics in three groups. Retrieval Relevance and Retrieval Coverage cover retrieval. Clarity, Answer Relevance and Answer Completeness cover answer quality. Strict Faithfulness and judge calibration cover grounding and stability.
- Retrieval Relevance is a precision-style metric. An LLM scores each chunk, and a chunk counts as relevant only at τ = 0.7 or above (highly useful evidence).
- Coverage and Completeness both rely on one shared set of atomic aspects taken from the question. Neither needs reference answers or reference contexts.
- Strict Faithfulness uses a single LLM call to place every claim in one of three categories: backed by the context, partly hallucinated, or entirely hallucinated. This differs from RAGAS's two-step semantic-inference pipeline.
- The paper appeared at EACL 2026 (System Demonstrations), and the code is at github.com/KeerthanaMurugaraj/RAGVue. The tool reports diagnostics but does not automatically fix the pipeline.
