## Summary
Authorship analysis has to separate an author's personal style from genre and topic, but topic effects are hard to study. Existing corpora rarely contain texts by the same writer on many subjects within a single genre. CROSSNEWS, for example, keeps 97.5% of its authors within one domain. The authors build WikiFirst from English Wikipedia using only the first revision of each article. Every included revision was written by a registered, human page creator, which removes doubt about who wrote the text. All texts are encyclopaedic, so genre stays fixed. Selected editors had created articles in at least five content domains before ChatGPT's release. The texts were retrieved through the Wikipedia API and stripped of Wikitext markup. Wikipedia's 13 top-level categories were then mapped onto a new eight-domain taxonomy. The resulting corpus covers 100 prolific editors and more than 226,000 documents. The eight domains are much better balanced than the raw categories. Researchers can use the corpus to test how stable stylistic features stay when subject matter changes and genre does not.

## Key points
- **Corpus size:** WikiFirst has 100 authors, 226,098 documents and about 42.7M tokens.
  - Mean document length is 188.9 tokens (SD 641.68).
  - Each author has on average about 2,261 documents covering 12.16 of the 13 Wikipedia categories.
- **Inclusion rules:**
  - Only named, non-bot editors were included.
  - Each editor had to have created first revisions in five or more domains before 30 Nov 2022.
  - Authors left with fewer than 10 documents after cleaning were dropped.
- **Taxonomy:** the eight domains come from two 2×2 grids.
  - Sciences are split into hard vs. soft and pure vs. applied, adapted from Becher and Trowler.
  - Humanities and culture are split into descriptive vs. normative and institutional vs. cultural.
- **Balance:** after mapping, the smallest domain has roughly 2,800 texts, and seven of the eight domains exceed 10,000. In addition, for 73% of authors, seven of the eight domains each hold 10 or more of their documents.
- **Availability:**
  - The data is on Kaggle (doi:10.34740/kaggle/dsv/14797130) under CC BY-SA 4.0.
  - The code is at github.com/himynameiszim/wikifirst; cleaning used mwparserfromhell.
- **Limitations:** Wikipedia's editorial norms dampen individual style, and because all authors are top contributors, authorial diversity is lower.
