## Summary
Long-form text-to-speech has shifted from single sentences to paragraphs and multi-speaker dialogue, but evaluation has not kept pace. Existing test sets cover few domains, and standard metrics such as WER are nearly saturated and miss long-range properties like consistency and coherence. SwanBench-Speech fills this gap with a benchmark for both long-form narration and dialog generation. It is organised around three challenge axes: acoustics, semantics, and expressiveness.

The test material comes from three sources: web text, cleaned web audio, and LLM-generated scripts. The audio was denoised, filtered with DNS-MOS, diarized and transcribed. Seven automatic metrics cover the three axes, and the authors checked them against human judgments.

More than 20 open- and closed-source systems were tested. Current models roughly equal real recordings on fidelity and transcription accuracy. They still trail clearly on reverb consistency, prosodic coherence and paragraph-level expressive variation, and they are weakest in highly expressive genres. The authors link these weaknesses largely to training data: short clips, noisy web audio, and the flattening effect of scale. The benchmark gives the field a scalable, standardised way to measure long-form quality.

## Key points
- The benchmark contains 1,101 samples across 17 scenarios with 1–4 speakers each, averaging about 229 words per sample.
- The scenarios are grouped by challenge:
  - **Acoustics:** podcast, interview, audiobook, and others.
  - **Semantics:** lesson, news, seminar, and others.
  - **Expressiveness:** drama, talk show, sportscast, and others.
- The seven metrics are:
  - **Acoustics:** timbre consistency (WavLM, sliding window), reverb consistency (SRMR variability), and sound fidelity (SQUIM).
  - **Semantics:** content accuracy (CER/WER) and prosodic coherence.
  - **Expressiveness:** expressive richness and expressive hierarchy, both scored by an MLLM judge.
- Data findings for specific models:
  - SparkTTS, trained on VoxBox (segments under 10 s), degrades as texts get longer.
  - CosyVoice3, trained on in-the-wild data, lags on reverb consistency.
  - GLM-TTS and FishSpeech score well on acoustics but poorly on expressiveness.
- The authors report three limitations:
  - The benchmark covers only Chinese and English.
  - Prompt audio comes from just 20 open-source speakers.
  - Semantic evaluation of emotional and stylistic transitions is still preliminary.
