## Summary
This shared-task paper addresses the binary classification of Tamil YouTube comments as Abusive or Non-Abusive, focusing on abuse aimed at women. The setting is the DravidianLangTech@ACL 2026 task. Tamil is hard for this because of its rich morphology, frequent mixing with English, and hostility that is often implicit or sarcastic. The authors normalized the labels, removed duplicate training items, and cleaned the text through a multi-step pipeline. They then fine-tuned three transformers: MuRIL and IndicBERT v2 for Indic and Tamil coverage, and XLM-RoBERTa-Large for broader multilingual signal. Each model was trained four times with different learning rates, using class-weighted cross-entropy and AdamW. The softmax outputs of all twelve runs are averaged (soft voting) to produce the final label. The ensemble reached a macro F1 of 0.8086 on the official test set and placed 4th. It beat every single model and every ensemble built from one architecture alone, though the margins were small. The work suggests that mixing language-specialized and multilingual encoders helps for low-resource abuse detection, while also showing that implicit and sarcastic abuse remains difficult.

## Key points
- **Data:** 3,652 training and 913 test comments, with near-balanced classes. After removing 401 duplicates, 3,251 training samples remained, split 80/20 into 2,600 for training and 651 for validation.
- **Models:** MuRIL (17 Indian languages plus transliterations), IndicBERT v2 (24 languages) and XLM-RoBERTa-Large (100 languages), each run with 4 learning rates for 12 models in total. XLM-R-Large needed much lower rates (2e-6 to 5e-6).
- **Results (macro F1):**
  - Full 12-model ensemble: 0.8086.
  - Best single model, IndicBERT_2: 0.8075.
  - Per-architecture 4-model ensembles: about 0.795 to 0.799.
- **Errors:** The ensemble produced 108 false negatives versus 78 false positives. Missed cases were mostly implicit, culturally coded, sarcastic, or code-mixed abuse.
- **Limitations:** Ensemble weights were equal rather than tuned, with no labeled dev set and no hyperparameter sweeps. Training ran on a single Kaggle Tesla T4 GPU. Code is available at github.com/Mif-taa/Abusive-Tamil-Text.
