## Summary
Studies on teaching Arabic grammar to learners are scattered across linguistics, education and Islamic studies journals, and no one had mapped this literature as a whole. The authors ran a descriptive quantitative bibliometric study to show what the field covers and what it neglects. Through Publish or Perish they retrieved Scopus records on 9 April 2026 and found 152 documents with 419 citations. They then narrowed these to the 10 most-cited articles for close analysis. The workflow follows the Fahimnia framework (identify, screen, analyse, visualise). VOSviewer produced keyword co-occurrence networks and density maps. The field centres on "grammar", "approach" and "analysis", which reflects theoretical and structural work. Classroom implementation, assessment and measurement of effectiveness sit in sparse areas that are weakly tied to the main clusters. Two newer strands are dialect-specific studies and technology such as AI, machine learning and digital learning systems. The paper's value is this map of gaps. It recommends blending structural and functional teaching, running classroom experiments and building authentic assessment.

## Key points
- Data: Scopus via Publish or Perish, searched 9 April 2026, giving 152 documents and 419 citations. The 10 most-cited articles formed the core sample.
- Method: the Fahimnia bibliometric framework, plus VOSviewer keyword co-occurrence mapping with network and density visualisations.
- The densest keywords are "grammar" and "approach", with "analysis" also strong. "Implementation", "assessment" and "problem" are sparse, and "case study" and "history" are also minor.
- Terms like "Najdi Arabic" and "Saudi context" point to growing work tied to local dialects and settings.
- The authors conclude the field is still young and shaped by philology and structural linguistics. They see practice-oriented and evaluative research as the main gap.

## Interesting ideas
- Reading a keyword density map for its *cold* regions, not just its hot spots, turns a frequency picture into a list of under-studied topics.
- Weak links between clusters in a co-occurrence network are treated as evidence of a disconnect between theory work and practice work.
- Funnelling a broad retrieval (152 items) down to a small, high-signal core (10 most-cited) keeps deep analysis manageable while the wide set still supplies the overall map.
- Separating "structural" from "functional/contextual" views and recommending their integration is a reusable lens for any system that both analyses form and serves use.

## For Mova

How these ideas could serve Mova, our small open language model — its files, stages and tests:

- **I1** (learn): Build a density map over evaluation logs (which constructions and frames appear in test sets) to find sparsely tested phenomena and target new silver data or negative controls there.
- **I2** (answer): Link the frames a reader extracts to the question types it is graded on; frame types with no edges to any test reveal untested capabilities.
- **I3** (learn): Mine a large silver pool for disagreement statistics, but hand-inspect only a small top-ranked slice of sentences (e.g., most parser disagreement) when writing repair rules.
- **I4** (frames): Check that frame extraction ties each UD structure to its communicative function (speech act, implicature), so explanations cover both the form and its use.
