## Summary
Earlier work found that different LLMs rank their values in similar ways. This paper asks whether those rankings stay fixed when the model is pushed by its context, and whether some values tend to shift together. The authors build on the LITMUSVALUES setup. Models face two-action dilemmas, each action tied to one of 16 value classes drawn from developer principles such as Claude's Constitution and OpenAI's ModelSpec. Elo ratings computed from these pairwise "value battles" produce a ranking. They then apply six prompting strategies meant to shift values (Direct instruction, Rubric, In-Context Learning, Scenario, Persuasion, Persona) to eight models from three families. Pearson correlations of the resulting rank changes reveal how values are linked. The main findings are that larger models are easier to steer than smaller ones, and that immersive Scenario prompts reorder rankings most strongly. Scenario prompts can also anchor a model's values against later manipulation. The work matters for alignment because more capable models may be more open to contextual value manipulation.

## Key points
- Benchmark: 6 value-transformation prompting methods tested on 8 LLMs from 3 families. The figures show GPT-4.1-mini/nano, Qwen3 and LLaMA variants. Value rankings come from Elo scores over dilemmas spanning 16 value classes.
- Some values rise or fall together under perturbation, for example Privacy and Respect. The authors call this structure a "value correlation topology."
- Value-correlation patterns are more alike between large models from different families than between small models from the same family. The authors link this to the Platonic Representation Hypothesis.
- Defense tests used Qwen2.5-7B/32B/72B. Scenario framing, such as movie settings like "Avengers" or "Inception," weakened later Persona attacks in the larger models, while the 7B model shifted more. The paper proposes three protocols: Contextual Red-teaming, Synergistic Alignment, and a Defensive Context Framework.
- Ablation: the authors built a debiased dataset with 25 values and balanced frequencies, using gpt-3.5-turbo-0125 and manual selection of 3,000 dilemmas. The plasticity effect held on this data, including for DeepSeek-V3.
