## Summary
The paper tackles a weakness of continual knowledge editing in large language models. When many factual updates are applied one after another, existing editors compute each change on its own, and unrelated knowledge gradually degrades. The authors call this specificity drift. They propose TamEdit, which treats a whole sequence of edits as one trajectory and trains a hypernetwork ("meta-editor") with meta-learning. The method works at three levels. Inner optimization quickly adapts to each mini-batch of edits. Trajectory-based editing keeps a growing memory of past edits plus unrelated probe facts. Outer optimization learns, across many trajectories, an editor initialization that resists drift. Experiments use LLaMA-3-8B and Mistral-7B-v0.3 on ZsRE and FEVER, with 8,000 facts edited over 400 sequential batches. TamEdit matches strong baselines on Efficacy and Generalization but keeps Specificity much higher. It does this without external retrieval storage and with fast per-edit inference, which makes it a practical option for keeping deployed models up to date.

## Key points
- **Speed and specificity gain:** Specificity improves by 14.81% over baselines, at about 0.55 s per edit. General abilities stay intact on SST, MRPC, CoLA, RTE, MMLU and NLI.
- **Baselines and drift evidence:**
  - Compared methods include ROME, MEMIT, AlphaEdit, MEND, RECT and RLEdit.
  - The greedy editors lose Specificity as edits pile up, and RLEdit only partly reduces this.
  - T-SNE plots of 2,000 probe samples show AlphaEdit shifting hidden representations, while TamEdit largely preserves them.
- **Ablations:**
  - The meta-learned initialization beats both random and SFT initialization.
  - Adding neighborhood (P_neigh) and attribute (P_attr) data to the memory substantially raises Specificity.
- **Scaling:** Tests up to 15,000 edits on ZsRE (settings from 20×100 to 150×100) show the Specificity advantage holding as the edit count grows.
- **Design and extensions:**
  - Editing only layer 5 gave the best Specificity (about 53%); editing more layers added interference.
  - The editor can be combined with null-space projection and multi-layer editing.
  - Storage cost stays O(1), unlike retrieval-based approaches such as GRACE or SERAC.
