## Summary
Leaderboards are the standard way to compare machine learning models, but curating them by hand is costly. The datasets used to train automatic leaderboard extractors keep only each paper's top score and little context. This hides baselines, ablations and negative findings, which feeds "performance myopia" and publication bias. It also leaves unclear whether a score reflects in-domain or out-of-domain evaluation. The authors build MetaLead, a fully manually annotated resource that extends the SciLead document set of Şahinüç et al. (2024). For every paper they record all reported results, not just the headline one. They also add two schema fields: an experiment-type label (baseline, proposed method, or variation of the proposed method) and separate train and test datasets. They benchmark several LLMs on extracting this richer structure and propose a metric that takes experiment type into account. The experiments show that complete, structured extraction remains difficult. MetaLead therefore serves as a reference standard for transparent ML reporting, cost-aware model selection and meta-analysis of failures.

## Key points
- Tuple schema: each result becomes a six-element tuple covering the task, the datasets used for training and for testing, the evaluation metric, the reported score, and the kind of experiment, instead of the usual four elements of task, dataset, metric and score.
- The authors added 3,285 new records to SciLead's 295 best-result records, giving 3,568 annotated results from 43 English-language ML papers.
- The annotators were the authors themselves, working under CSIRO ethics guidance. Results shown only in figures (e.g., line graphs) were excluded.
- The paper benchmarks several LLMs on the extraction task and introduces a new evaluation metric for experiment-type-guided comparison.
- The base data is licensed CC-BY-NC 4.0, so MetaLead is for non-commercial research only. Data and code are at github.com/RoelTim/metalead.
