## Summary
Researchers who apply text and data mining often cannot redistribute the texts they study, because copyright or privacy rules (such as the German UrhG or the GDPR) forbid it. Derived Text Formats (DTFs) address this. They are reduced or abstracted versions of texts that still support analysis, but make rebuilding the original impossible or impractically costly. Until now, there has been no shared vocabulary or set of requirements for producing them. This paper presents DIN 19461:2026-06 (E), a German draft standard developed within DIN with input from the national research data infrastructure (NFDI, Text+). The standard defines:
- terminology for DTFs
- enrichment and information-reduction operations
- rules for combining several DTFs
- documentation duties for publishing and archiving DTFs

The authors illustrate the standard with token-, structure- and vector-based DTFs and link it to existing ISO language-resource standards. The standard aims to make DTF production comparable, reproducible and easier to assess legally. Whether a given workflow is legally compliant still has to be judged by whoever implements it.

## Key points
- Drafting was carried out within DIN by the NA 105-00-06 AA working group, which bears the name "Sprachressourcen und Sprachtechnologie". Its German title refers to "Abgeleitete Textformate (ATF)". It was deliberately scoped to national needs first, with possible later international uptake.
- It defines four core reduction operations: retain, delete, replace and randomise.
- All operations and their parameters must be recorded at an explicit level of granularity: token, sentence, paragraph, document or collection.
- For infrastructure, it builds on ISO 24,622 (CMDI) for metadata and ISO 24,619 for persistent identifiers. LAF (ISO 24,612) and feature structures (ISO 24,610) serve as a basis for enrichment and standoff annotation.
- Several questions remain open:
  - formal assessment of reconstruction risk from modern language models
  - benchmarks for testing non-reconstructibility
  - CMDI profiles designed specifically for DTFs
  - mappings to repository schemas
