## Summary
The CYUT team tackles SemEval-2026 Task 9, a benchmark of online polarization across 22 languages with three subtasks: binary polarization detection, classification of polarization type (such as political or religious targets), and identification of rhetorical manifestations (such as stereotyping or dehumanization). They LoRA-fine-tune two open instruction-tuned LLMs, Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct and Qwen2-7B-Instruct, using two data setups:

- **Multilingual, task-separated:** one model per subtask, trained on all languages pooled together.
- **Chinese-only, multi-task:** a single model trained on Chinese data with the labels of all three subtasks combined.

They then merge three such systems in an ensemble weighted by validation macro-F1. The three systems were chosen to differ deliberately for diversity, not as controlled comparisons. The ensemble was their official submission and ranked first for Chinese in Subtask 1. It beat the official baseline in several languages but not consistently in all. The Chinese-only model is strong on Chinese but much weaker on other languages. The work shows that combining monolingual and multilingual adapters can help in a high-resource target language.

## Key points
- **Single systems:**
  - M1 = Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct, multilingual and task-specific.
  - M2 = Qwen2-7B-Instruct with the same setup as M1.
  - M3 = Qwen2-7B-Instruct, Chinese-only with joint tasks.
- **Ensemble (M4):** combines M1–M3 with normalized weights. Subtask 1 uses per-language macro-F1 as weights. Subtasks 2 and 3 use per-label macro-F1 weights.
- **Chinese (zho) results, Subtask 1:** M4 reached macro-F1 0.9315, compared with 0.8691 for the baseline and 0.9248 for M3.
- **Chinese (zho) results, Subtasks 2 and 3:**
  - Subtask 2: M3 scored 0.8262, M4 scored 0.8245, and the baseline scored 0.6697.
  - Subtask 3: M4 scored 0.7004.
- **Results across languages:**
  - M1 had the best overall results on Subtasks 1 and 3; M2 was best on Subtask 2.
  - M3 often collapsed outside Chinese, falling to about 0.11 on one language in Subtask 1.
  - The baseline remained stronger in many Subtask 3 languages.
