## Summary
Synthesizing two-speaker spoken conversations is harder than single-speaker TTS. A model must switch voices at the right moments and learn text-to-speech alignment across different timbres. Existing dialogue systems are mostly autoregressive, which makes them slow and prone to skipped or repeated words. The authors present ZipVoice-Dialog, a non-autoregressive zero-shot model built on flow matching and initialized from the monologue model ZipVoice (Zipformer backbone, Vocos vocoder).

Plain flow matching trained on dialogues fails to align speech with text. Two fixes address this:
- **Curriculum training:** the model first learns from monologue data and is then fine-tuned on dialogues.
- **Speaker-turn embeddings:** two learnable embeddings added to the text condition tell the model which speaker is talking.

Extra techniques extend the model to stereo output. The team also releases OpenDialog, a 6.8k-hour open dialogue corpus mined from in-the-wild audio, and a reproducible evaluation benchmark. The compact model beats MoonCast and Dia in speed, intelligibility, turn accuracy and speaker similarity. This makes fast, open dialogue synthesis practical.

## Key points
- **Model size and speed:** ZipVoice-Dialog has 123M parameters, compared with 2.67B for MoonCast and 1.61B for Dia. Its real-time factor is 0.063, versus 0.953 for MoonCast and 1.663 for Dia, making it more than 15× faster.
- **English test set:** WER is 3.25, against 23.62 for MoonCast and 11.80 for Dia. On the short English subset, cpWER (which also checks speaker attribution) is 3.27, against 16.53 and 12.59.
- **Chinese test set:** WER is 3.17 versus 15.85 for MoonCast. In a 10-listener subjective test, SMOS was 3.86 versus 2.35, and MoonCast's CMOS was −1.17.
- **Training data:** OpenDialog (6.8k h) alone is enough to train a competitive model. Adding a 0.8k-hour manually annotated in-house set improves the balance between speaker similarity and quality.
- **Availability and scope:** code, checkpoints and OpenDialog are released at github.com/k2-fsa/ZipVoice. Limitations include restricted expressiveness at this scale, subjective tests run only in Chinese, and experiments covering two speakers only.
